Finally, some of our American expat friends are beginning to awaken to the ranting I've been doing about life in Guanajuato. Now, if you've been reading my columns on a regular basis know occasionally I lose my mind, not entirely, and go to Pancho Villa about life in Guanajuato.
Eye, I am talking about normal things in Mexico. I'm talking about things like opening stores, when they say they never will. I'm not talking about the traditional custom, provincial Mexican not arrive on time for anything. I'm not talking about that does not offer much as a "How-do-you-do" when the kindness of Mexico was asked why not call to cancel an appointment for good anal-attentive American pal. That's not what I mean.
I have been talking about things in my columns as getting pushed from the sidewalk in the path of a bus driven by someone who thinks it is a race car. I'm talking about asking the bottle of water to finally issued only after has died of thirst and his body was sent back to the States three months ago. That's what I mean.
My friend posted a story today. She is the one who has finally admitted maybe my wife and I see these things and not do it because she and her husband, in typical American expatriate, Stay Pretty much entrenched in their luxury goods (which not really a property, but I'm adding this in case you read this, and occasionally does) until they need something. When they venture out, when you go out alone themselves of their U.S. television channels transmitted via satellite from space, and they go everywhere. They rarely walk so rarely have the pleasure of being run over by a bus when a gentle push Guanajuato in its path.
Our friend went to the Mega Superstore today. Yes, gentrification has begun in Guanajuato with a hypermarket, in the scale of a Super Wal-Mart, totally destroying a lifestyle and ancient culture in Guanajuato. She was in a line with only 7 people in it. A Mexican woman, without provisions, was in line in front of her. When "your turn" came, she took out her cell phone and called his large family – composed for generations – to get out of the cafeteria and get in front of the check-out. So, here was his family, about 30 of them, with full shopping carts packed, cutting in front of our friend and check out. Our friend the "Guanajuato Shove" and cut in front of this woman saying, "With Permission" and had gone before she was allegedly thrown definitely a push, a nudge and off the road.
